M&A Companion Touch
8.9 inch
mini-tablet PC

The M&A Companion Touch
mini-tablet PC is my first choice
for my next computer. It seems
to be the best deal in the netbook
category, not to mention the
mini-tablet notebook category,
which itself is mini, especially
compared to all the choices from
netbook manufacturers. With few
choices in the mini-tablet market,
this PC is clearly a winner.

My "First View" review will post
soon.

(The following text is from the
M&A website).

Overview

The Companion Touch provides a
unique opportunity for students to
stay connected with the school by
allowing them to take home what
they learn in school. This

between school and home will
help students and teachers

connected at all times. The
Companion Touch offers the best
value under $500. This mini-tablet
PC is designed to withstand the
day-to-day usage by children in
the school and at home. It comes

'Lifestyle Companion'
Notebook PC

Turn-by-turn GPS

I had a chance to mess around with
this notebook at the Sony Style store
in NYC.

Pros:
GPS is a good idea. I have yet to
test its capabilities.

Cons:
Viewing ezrider.info showed the fonts
sized quite small due to its resolution
of 1600 x 768 and was too small to be
easily viewed. Setting it to a lower
resolution was no help either.

No mouse pad, instead a pointing
stick. It is difficult to use precisely and
has a mind of its own, as pointing sticks
often do. In other words, the cursor
would not stay put and will start moving
on its own.

Priced too high to compete as a Netbook.

One Laptop per Child
The XO
7.5 inch LCD
Tablet PC

(The following text is from the
the laptop.org website)

Introducing the children's laptop
from One Laptop per Child, a
potent learning tool created
expressly for the world’s poorest
children living in its most remote
environments. The laptop was
designed collaboratively by
experts from both academia and
industry, bringing to bear both
extraordinary talent and many
decades of collective field
experience in every aspect of this
non-profit humanitarian project.
The result is a unique harmony of
form and function; a flexible, ultra
low-cost, power-efficient,
responsive, and durable machine
with which nations of the emerging
world can leapfrog decades of
development—immediately
transforming the content and
quality of their children’s learning.

A small machine with a big
mission. The XO is a potent
learning tool designed and built
especially for children in
developing countries, living in
some of the most remote
environments. It’s about the size
of a small textbook. It has built-in
wireless and a unique screen that
is readable under direct sunlight
for children who go to school
outdoors. It’s extremely durable,
brilliantly functional, energy-
efficient, and fun.

A real world laptop for real world
change. The XO laptop. Many years
and an infinite amount of sweat
equity went into the creation of the
XO laptop. Designed collaboratively
by experts from academia and
industry, the XO is the product of
the very best thinking about
technology and learning. It was
designed with the real world in mind,
considering everything from extreme
environmental conditions such as
high heat and humidity, to
technological issues such as local
language support. As a result, the
XO laptop is extremely durable,
brilliantly functional, energy-
efficient, responsive, and fun.
Come take a look.

embedded into a media-rich
authoring environment; and (5)
