Tuff-n-Lite®
Motorcycle
Safety Apparel
(Note: My update will post soon. I can say
that I have now tried this safety device in
hot, warm and cool conditions and it
seems to have no faults. I am confident
that it adds a new level of safety to my
arsenal of appropriate personal riding
gear).
Tuff-n-Light makes lightweight, highly
breathable, flexible and washable sweater
like garment, pictured here. Tuff-n-Light
describe this as a shirt and I guess in is
more like a shirt, but because it is a knit it
looks like a sweater. This model is called
Kilowatt™ UTR21BLK Reflective "T".
This model is also available in a
non-reflective version. Tuff-n-Light makes
four designed "shirts" with one designed
for women. Tuff-n-Light shirts have 10
times more abrasion resistant than carbon
steel!
The Kilowatt™ that I'm testing doesn't have
the warmth of a sweater, and seems almost
neutral and ads just a little weight to my
clothing. This is made of the lightest weight
version of the choices of fabrics available
from Tuff-n-Light. They also make many
other designs with a choice of light, medium
and heavy weight Tuff-n-Light fabrics.
I recently got a chance to take it out for two
rides so far. I can say it is a beauty. It is very
well made. As you can see in the photo
above I chose the reflective design which will
work well if you ride without a jacket and it
will show up well if you are stopped on the
side of the road and are changing to warmer
clothing, finding your rain suit or for whatever
reason. No one will miss seeing you if their
headlights shine on your shirt. I will wear it
under my coat at first, but I think it might
replace my ventilated Vanson coat on very
very hot days. It is stronger than leather.
It doesn't however, have padding. If I do end
up sliding along the pavement my skin
should be protected due to it's abrasion
resistance.
Tuff-n-Light also makes a leather Harley type
jacket lined with Tuff-n-Light and gloves.
